A little while ago we shared the beginning of our Breast Cancer Awareness project, and today we are excited to give you an update on how this journey of love and compassion is growing.
Rosemary and I have been crocheting beanies at full speed! Hooks are flying, yarn is winding, and our hearts are full as we work toward an ambitious goal: to complete at least 400 beanies for chemotherapy patients.
We officially started this project on 1 July 2026, and we are thrilled to share that we have already completed 278 beanies! Seeing the growing collection of finished beanies is incredibly encouraging and reminds us daily of the power of small acts of kindness. We are also sharing a few photos of the beanies so that you can see the beautiful colours and textures that have been created along the way.
For this special project we are using Pianna Yarns’ DUO, SOLOIST, and Collector’s Yarn. These beautiful natural yarns have proven to be the perfect combination for our Breezie beanies. Their softness is truly remarkable, and anyone who has touched them will understand why we chose them.
Chemo patients often experience increased skin sensitivity, and comfort becomes incredibly important during treatment. We wanted every beanie to feel gentle, breathable, and soothing against the skin. The natural fibres in these yarns create a light, airy softness that makes them ideal for everyday wear, especially during warmer weather when a heavy hat may feel uncomfortable.
To make each beanie even more special, we carefully stitch a *breast cancer awareness charm* onto every single one. This small charm is a symbol of hope, strength, courage, and support for the person who receives it.
Each beanie will also be lovingly packaged with:
* a motivational message card, and
* a ginger cookie.
Our hope is that this little package will bring not only warmth and comfort but also a smile and a moment of encouragement during a challenging time.
What makes this project so meaningful is that every beanie represents more than yarn and stitches. Each one carries a message of care, encouragement, and support for someone facing a difficult season. As we crochet, we think of the women and men who will receive these beanies and hope they will feel wrapped in kindness when they wear them.
Reaching 400 beanies is a big goal, but with every completed beanie we move one step closer. We are amazed by how quickly the pile is growing and grateful for the opportunity to use our craft to make a difference.
Thank you to everyone who has followed this journey, offered encouragement, and supported Pianna Yarns. Your kindness inspires us to keep going.
We will continue to share updates as the project progresses. For now, it is back to our hooks and yarn, because there are many more Breezie beanies waiting to be made.
Together we are stitching hope, comfort, and awareness—one beanie at a time.💗
